By now, the sound of your Vespa starting up is second nature. You’ve already glided past olive groves and clifftop towns—but today’s route dives deeper into Puglia’s storybook landscapes. Welcome to Day 3—a ride through the heart of the Valle d’Itria, where whitewashed towns, trulli rooftops, and Adriatic breezes come together in a way that feels almost too perfect to be real.

☕ Morning Fuel & On the Road

The day begins with a relaxed breakfast at Masseria D’Erchia—think ricotta, figs, crusty bread, and strong coffee (or three). Then it’s time to roll. We head inland, trading coastline for countryside, on smooth, curving roads flanked by dry stone walls and endless green fields.

🏠 Stop One: Alberobello — Land of the Trulli

First up is Alberobello, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and the fairytale capital of Puglia. As you ride into town, the trulli start to appear—cone-roofed stone houses that look like they were plucked from a Tolkien novel. Some are homes, others are artisan shops or cozy wine bars, but all of them carry the charm of centuries-old tradition.

You’ll have time to explore the quieter parts of town—away from the tourist trail. Our local guide offers a short walking tour, then leaves space for you to meander. Pick up a hand-painted ceramic, chat with a local artist, or simply sip an espresso in the shade of a trullo and listen to the rhythm of the town.

🍷 Stop Two: Locorotondo — Circular Charm & Midday Wine

Back on the Vespas, we coast to Locorotondo, named for the perfectly round shape of its historic center. This town is quiet elegance personified: whitewashed alleys, blooming balconies, and panoramic views of the valley below.

We stop for a light lunch and wine tasting at a boutique enoteca just outside the town walls. The local Locorotondo DOC white wine is crisp, floral, and perfect with a platter of burrata, sun-dried tomatoes, and grilled zucchini. It’s the kind of place where lunch turns into conversation and time gently disappears.

🧀 Stop Three: Cisternino — Smoke, Spice & Slow Walks

Our third inland stop is Cisternino, known for its simple beauty and its fornelli pronti—butcher shops that double as informal grill spots. The scent of grilled bombette (little meat rolls stuffed with cheese and herbs) fills the streets. We won’t eat again just yet—but we’ll file this scent away for future cravings.

Here, we stroll. Past local life happening on benches. Past barbershops and bakeries. Past kids playing soccer in stone courtyards. It’s a town that doesn’t perform for visitors. It just is. And that’s what makes it magic.

🌊 Final Stretch: Coastal Ride to Savelletri

We drop in altitude as we ride westward toward the coast again, letting the sea reappear on the horizon. The destination? Savelletri, a peaceful fishing village that feels like a reward after a full day inland.

We check in at a seaside restaurant where dinner is set by the water—a table reserved just for our group, lit by soft lanterns and the fading light of the day. On the menu:

  • Raw seafood platters with lemon and olive oil

  • Spaghetti with clams and cherry tomatoes

  • Grilled catch of the day, caught that morning

  • Local white wine and chilled limoncello to close

The breeze smells like salt and wild thyme. Conversation flows as easily as the wine. If there were a moment to capture what Vesping Around is all about, it might be this one.

🏡 Return to Masseria

As the stars begin to rise, we ride back to Masseria D’Erchia under a quiet sky. Today was full—of flavor, beauty, stories, and movement. Tomorrow? A different rhythm awaits: one with your hands in the dough and your eyes on the hilltops.
