There’s something timeless about the moment you arrive in Puglia. The sun is low, the wind carries hints of rosemary and salt air, and your Vespa journey is just about to begin. Day 1 of our five-day adventure opens not with speed, but with stillness—a conscious breath of slow travel that begins at the gates of the masseria we rented for the week, just outside the coastal town of Monopoli.

Where History Meets Hospitality

Tucked into the rolling countryside less than ten minutes from the Adriatic Sea, the masseria we chose is no ordinary accommodation. This 11th-century masseria has been lovingly restored into a high-end countryside retreat. Its whitewashed walls reflect the golden light of sunset, and its twelve hectares of olive trees, almond groves, and fig trees stretch like a postcard into the distance.

Every room here has been carefully curated: limestone archways, antique furniture, and terracotta floors offer a rustic frame to the otherwise modern comfort. Some rooms even have private patios where guests can unwind in the late afternoon light with a glass of wine or fresh lemonade in hand.

This is your home base for the next five days—a peaceful haven, fully reserved for our group, with the right balance of luxury and authenticity. You’ll unpack once, but settle in deeply.

Vespa Orientation: Safety, Style, and a Little Bit of Sass

As guests arrive and freshen up from their travels, we ease into the first group gathering of the week: the Vespa Discovery. Under the shade of the olive trees, our tour lead introduces the lineup of Vespas—gleaming and prepped for the week’s adventures.

Whether you’re new to scooters or already a seasoned rider, the briefing ensures you’ll feel confident and ready. We review how to handle curves, how to brake on loose gravel, and how to ride safely in a group format in the region's specific traffic patterns. Helmets are distributed, and there’s time for a test spin down the gravel paths of the property and a little beyond.

This part of the trip always sparks energy—smiles, a few playful honks, and the beginning of friendships that will deepen over shared meals and scenic rides.

Welcome Dinner at the Masseria

As golden hour settles in, the courtyard of Masseria D’Erchia comes to life.

A long communal table is dressed with linen runners, olive branches, and flickering candles. Dinner is served right here, al fresco, with a private chef team crafting a traditional Apulian welcome meal using ingredients sourced from the very fields around us.

You’ll begin with:

  • Antipasti of burrata, grilled vegetables, and local capocollo

  • Handmade orecchiette served in a rustic tomato and cacioricotta sauce

  • Secondo of slow-roasted lamb with wild fennel or a vegetarian version featuring grilled caciocavallo cheese

  • Dolci of seasonal fruit and a traditional almond pasticciotto

All paired with local Puglian wines—from a crisp white Verdeca to a smooth Primitivo red.

The mood? Relaxed, joyful, and just a little enchanted. This is not a restaurant meal—it’s a celebration of arrival. By the end of the evening, laughter floats across the courtyard and a subtle feeling begins to settle in: you’re exactly where you’re supposed to be.

Rest, Recharge, and Get Ready

As the candles burn low and the stars come out, you’ll retire to your room—full, content, and buzzing with anticipation. Tomorrow, the real adventure begins with our first full ride through the Valle d’Itria.

But tonight is about softness and arrival, about connection and comfort. You’ve landed. You’re not just in Italy—you’re in Vesping Around’s Italy.

Up Next: Castles, Caves & Coastal Cliffs

Tomorrow we’ll ride through the countryside to visit Castellana Grotte, the medieval town of Conversano, and the postcard-perfect cliffs of Polignano a Mare. Adventure awaits—fuel up on breakfast, bring your camera, and let the road unfold.

Note: This blog post is written for narrative and illustrative purposes. Final itineraries, accommodations, and partner experiences may vary depending on availability, weather, and seasonal changes. We reserve the right to update or replace elements of the experience with equally magical alternatives.orecchiette, and crisp local white wine. It’s the beginning of something special.
